Association between coffee consumption and prevalence of periodontal disease: an exploratory study

Scenario: Dental surface biofilm formation triggers periodontal disease (gingivitis and periodontitis), the second most frequent oral pathology, only to caries. Studies of these diseases' prevalence in coffee consumers have shown conflicting results. Some studies correlate consumption with aggravation disease, while others remission. Purpose: This study aimed analyze association between using Community Periodontal Index (CPI). Method: We developed a cross-sectional 127 people at primary health care service Baturité, Brazil, 2022. Participants were interviewed investigate sociodemographic data, eating habits, consumption. Then, clinical examination was performed obtain CPI index. The approved by Human Research Ethics Committee under opinion number 5.492.233. Data analyzed SPSS, Chi-square Pearson's correlation used for statistical analysis. Results: Age influenced index (gingival bleeding, calculus, pockets) five six sextants evaluated. Older patients had higher rate disease. common pattern ≥ 2 times day, 240 ml (one cup) per serving. Conclusion: Coffee inversely related who consumed more showed lower gingival pockets. finding evident among young subjects. Finally, there no educational level
